Hi! I am a divorced mom of two teenagers, one of whom I homeschool while the other is thriving in traditional public school.
Eight years ago, I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and muscular rheumatism. I wasn't able to work in the traditional way any longer, and after a period of depression, decided to work as an independent contractor to provide counseling from home. When public school refused to make the required arrangements to educate my son and he was about to fail his first year of middle school, I was lucky to be able to start providing education at home for him.
My son has had ADHD practically since birth...he broke his crib and had to sleep in a pack and play because I was afraid he would hurt himself on a wood crib. This was before he could even crawl! I decided that since my daycare provider and I could handle his "wild" behavior, I wouldn't try any medications unless his distractibility caused a problem in school.
He didn't start having problems in school until about third grade...after fighting it for so long, I decided to try medications for him. He was tried on a lot of different medicines. Some didn't work at all. Some worked for a couple of hours. Some worked for a couple of hours but then made him feel very lethargic for the rest of the day. It was awful watching my son go through that. Things are better now, but it is still a daily struggle.
This blog will be our resources, activities, tips and talk about homeschool!
